« The Revival » is back! A pop-up in Esch to learn and engage in favor of a more responsible fashion.

Our clothes don't just disappear off the face of the earth when we throw them away; they often travel as far as West Africa, with considerable impact. "The Revival", a Ghanaian citizens' organisation, in collaboration with Caritas Luxembourg, will be shedding light on this reality in Esch from 1 February to 11 May 2024, thanks to the support of the City of Esch.

Ghana has become the fast fashion's dumping ground. Every day, 160 tonnes of textile waste are shipped there, the equivalent of 800 million pieces of garments. Ghana is home to the Kantamanto market in Accra (the capital), with 30,000 vendors, and is one of the largest second-hand markets in the world. Ghana is drowning under tonnes of clothing from Western and Asian countries, causing environmental damage and impoverishing the Ghanaian population. Ghana finds itself having to manage a problem for which they're not responsible, it is not a viable situation.

Yayra and Kwamena, the founders of The Revival, have taken up the challenge to tranform the fashion industry to save their country from the rubbles of textile waste. Not only do they play a key role in their community in Ghana, but they also exert an influence on an international scale through their work to inform and educate the general public in consumerist countries. They work with artists, fashion students and their community to transform waste materials into new garments and art pieces, redefining the notion of 'waste'.

After taking over the fashion capitals of London and Paris, The Revival is back to Luxembourg with an immersive exhibition to share their experience through photography and a short film. This exhibition sheds light on the impacts of textile waste in West Africa, the innovative solutions put in place by their project, and the impact we, as consumers from a Western country, can have in reducing and preventing these problems.
